But before I started my own business, I was a consultant for Fortune 500 companies. And despite a PhD and a decade working with elite leaders, I didn't know how to lead authentically.
Why? Because I never saw myself in places of leadership.
Women of color make up barely 10% of senior leader positions. And when they are in these positions, they are riddled with impostor syndrome, burnout, and the idea that they "have to work twice as hard to get half as far."
I didn't want that for me.
My ancestors worked too hard to get me to this life for me to toil my whole life. But how do you lead authentically when you've never been taught to?

We all have inner critics, but as the trailblazing first in your family, you are leading in a world that is different than the one your caregivers grew up in. A world that in many cases does not support your authentic expression. Plus, you've been so busy trying to fit in, keeping your head down and working hard, that you haven't made the time to truly explore and love all parts of who you are.

Then there are the expectations that your family and culture have of you and your success.
